Welcome to Tamani Project
Our New World

With the new technologies and breakthroughs in communications and electronics, we are living in a time of unprecedented interaction of all people.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore those starving because of a poor rainy season in Namibia, children kidnapped and forced to fight in rebel armies in DR Congo, or little girls in Cambodia, raised in brothels, who know no other life.  Because of the internet and today’s global economy, these people are now our neighbors.  However, because of these advancements along with an unprecedented amount of resources available to us, we are at a point in history where we can realistically put an end to extreme poverty, that is, if we make it a priority.

The Tamani Project will host the blogs and photo galleries of individuals working full time to assist the underprivelaged.  These blogs are intended to help others gain first hand insite into the conditions and challenges present to both this plighted group and those working to combat the problems that effect them.  Tamani Project also provides an opportunity to discuss these issues that our modern world presents, with a community of people who are asking the same questions themselves

The founder of the Tamani Project developed this idea in preparation for his term of service in the Peace Corps in Zambia.  His team will be serving from 2006-2008.  Their blogs can be found under the "Zambia Homepage" button.

The Goal

Tamani is a Swahili word for hope.  We believe that through education, discussion, and action, hope can be found for all people.  The Tamani Project has four specific goals.  It aims to Promote Discussion, Educate, Network, and Inspire.

  • To create an environment in which people feel free discuss important and sometimes controversial issues without fear of judgment for their opinions
  • Educate people about these issues so that they can make more informed opinions
  • Network people with similar interests and similar goals
  • Inspire others to take action and take risks to serve the underprivileged and impoverished
